Laura Ferrell, EdD
About Me
Dr. Laura Ferrell is an assistant professorial lecturer at Saint Xavier University (SXU) in Chicago. She received her BA in Elementary Education from Loyola University Chicago (Go Ramblers!), her MA in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago (Go Cougars!) and her EdD from University of St. Francis (Go Saints!). Her area of focus during her doctoral studies was the impact of adaptive learning platforms on student growth. A self-proclaimed nerd since her youth, her current research interests include how technology can influence the way people learn and what role curiosity can play in American classrooms.

Prior to her role at the university level, Ferrell spent time in K-8 settings, teaching most elementary grade levels at various points, with an emphasis on middle school later in her career. Before transitioning into a school administrator in 2013, she piloted the role of middle school instructional technology coach in her district.

In her current role as assistant professorial lecturer, she is the Program Coordinator for both the Elementary Education program and the edTPA. She serves on several university committees, namely the University Planning and Budget Committee, Driehaus Advisory Committee and Graduate Council. She also serves on faculty senate. Her teaching load focuses on data & assessment, classroom management, literacy and STEM/STEAM education.
Her participation in other professional groups include ILASCD and IATEPC.
A Chicago Bridgeport native, she remains a loyal White Sox fan. Her personal interests include camping, Disney, a good pint and a good sit.
